Revolution is a brand-new development environment based on proven technology. It runs on Mac OS, Windows 95/98/NT/2000/ME, Linux, Linux PPC, Sparc, AIX, and Unix (all popular varieties). Revolution creates powerful, fully featured applications on all major platforms quickly, easily and royalty free. Revolution has the standard features of an HLD tool: a graphical design environment for interface development; Transcript, an easy-to-understand yet very powerful language; simple high-level access to dozens of lower-level functions, such as Internet protocols, associative arrays, and regular expressions. Revolution refines many of these features, making them more powerful. Many aspects of cross-platform deployment are handled automatically. Multiple-language deployment is simplified because Revolution can switch the entire user interface of an application between any number of stored profiles. Even further, Revolution offers capabilities rarely found in competing development tools. Projects can be previewed in the look and feel of any platform, all on a single computer. A projects layout, variables, properties, and even the code itself can be modified as the project runs. Code can be entered and run at any time using the message box. The development environment of Revolution itself is accessible and extensible, allowing the developer to automate the development process, improving efficiency. Revolution maximizes flexibility, while still offering the developer high-level access. User-interface controls can receive a wide number of events, ensuring that desired functionality is possible. Controls (and code) can be created at runtime, furthering flexibility. The developer is not limited in either what she is allowed to do, or what she is able to do. Revolution supports full multimedia integration, including support for GIF, JPEG, PNG, vector graphics, AIFF sound files, QuickTime, QuickTime VR and HTML. Revolution is developed by Runtime Revolution Ltd., a company based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Revolution is available in a $349 standard version or a $995 professional version, which includes printed documentation and one year of email technical support and updates. Both versions are feature-complete. Educational discounts, including significant discounts on K-12 lab packs, are available. For hobbyist developers, a free Starter Kit is available. It is also feature-complete, limited only in that scripts cannot exceed a certain length. Finally, a version with no GUI and no script-length limits is available for free as a server-side CGI engine. |
